- Hi Tom and Peggy -- I have a fair amount of experience using cold frames for gardening. Since our climate is more temperate we can easily extend the seasons with a cold frame The easiest cold frame to set up and take down uses pvc plastic pipe, 3 – 6 ml plastic sheeting and clips Creative Shelters Snap Clamp. You bend the plastic into hoops over the area to be covered and cover with plastic clipped on. To access the inside you simply remove a few clips and lift up the plastic. Not very aethetically pleasing, but easy to store and reusable. If one has plenty of space, a permanent cold frame is wonderful. I would be glad to share many idea I have seen over the years. Love to all. Liz
