Reduce

  • Newspapers: can read most online; consider weekend only delivery; read at the library
  • Magazines: can read most online; read at the library; coordinate with friends to share
  • Books:
    • check books out of library
      • take advantage of your library's hold system and have them hold a book for you
      • take out audio books
    • some books are now becoming available on Google Book Search
  • use the Kindle book reader for books, newspapers and magazines

Reuse

  • Newspapers: use to clean windows; donate to schools for craft projects; save for packing material
  • Magazines: donate to your library (to be sold); donate your magazines to places with waiting areas (physicians', veterinarians' and dentists' offices; hair salons; medical labs; hospitals) so others can read them; can be used as a shipping material
  • Books: share with friends; donate to library; donate to book stores; give to people with young children

Recycle

  • Newspapers: are recycled at curbside, placed in brown paper bag or tied up
  • Magazines: are recycled at curbside, placed in brown paper bag or tied up
  • Books: if donation is not available, can be taken to SOCCRA or most local recycling centers; sell them on Amazon or Craigslist (can also donate on Craigslist); Motor City Book Drive
